EFE
Designer, artist, researcher and creative director. Co-founder at Mirror Fabbrica. MSc and PhD in METU Industrial Design Department on using data as a design material and combining personal memory related data with 3D printing. Lecturing part-time about computational design methods in Bilkent University Graphic Design Department.
After graduating from Bilkent University Department of Graphic Design, he completed his masters degree in Middle East Technical University, Department of Industrial Design, about the use of 3D printing methods for the manufacturing of end-use products. During his graduate studies, he developed a specialized 3D printing method on mirrors and he co-founded and created Mirror Fabbrica brand.
His PhD research (METU, Department of Industrial Design) focuses on the use of generative design methods for the creation of personally valuable and meaningful products through data physicalization techniques. He is working on a transformation method that enables users to visualize memory related data into three dimensional forms.
Besides his PhD research, Alpay is a part-time instructor in Bilkent University Department of Graphic Design lecturing on Computational Design Methods.
He has extensive experience in creative direction of large scale projects such as interactive exhibition design, software development, and project management areas from his creative director role at reo-tek (www.reo-tek.com), which has realized more than 65 projects in the field of digital museum (e.g. Istanbul Cinema Museum 2020, Expo 2016 Agriculture and Biodiversity Museum), interactive exhibitions (e.g. Göbeklitepe, The Gathering at Cer Modern Museum), science & technology centers (e.g. Kayseri Science Center). At Reo-tek, he has led occupational training projects incorporating virtual reality, augmented reality and interactive software technologies.
Alpay provides solutions to real-life problems by fusing and adopting cutting edge technologies (artificial intelligence, machine learning, virtual reality, augmented reality, 3D printing, blockchain, computational design and real-time graphics) with a human centered approach.
Since 2020, he started to create blockchain based NFT projects exploiting his PhD research findings.
